City Council Approves Cardinal Run Lease

Document Actions

excerpt from the Lexington Herald Leader, Friday, Oct 20, '06

Months of haggling ended last night when the Urban County Council voted to let the Lexington Youth Soccer Association build a complex of eight soccer fields in Cardinal Run Park.

"It's good for the soccer players of Fayette County," said Foster Ockerman Jr., attorney for LYSA, after the 11-3 vote. Construction is still a ways off because plans must be drawn first.

In the usage agreement, LYSA will be able to lease 40 acres of parkland up to 35 years from the city for $1 year. The city will split the cost of building a permanent restroom facility and a road to the complex with LYSA. Chuck Ellis, director of parks and recreation, estimated the city's share will be $75,000 for constructing the bathroom and $60,000 for the road.
